Fifteen persons were arrested from the city on different charges on Tuesday, including impersonating as a member of the staff of the Minister for Finance.
Sivi, 30, of Chirayinkil, Thiruvananthapuram, came to a city hospital here complaining of chest pain. He introduced himself as a member of the staff of the Finance Minister. However, the hospital staff alerted the police on becoming suspicious about the claim. The police, after verification, found that the claim was false.
During the interrogation, it was learnt that he had served sentence in another cheating case. He was later handed over to the Town North Police, where a case was registered.
Rajesh, 34, of P&T Colony, Kadavanthra; Marshal, 26, of Athirampuzha, Kottayam; and Jibin, 28, of Kottayam were arrested on charges of attempted burglary. Rajesh has burglary and narcotic cases registered against him in many police stations in the city and the other two have served sentences in narcotic cases in Kottayam.
Cases were registered against the three by the Kadavanthra police.C.C. Paul, 75, of Kumaranasan Nagar, Kadavanthra, was arrested after the shadow wing of the City Police searched his shop and residence and seized 45 bottles of foreign liquor and more than 5,000 packets of banned tobacco products.
The Harbour police registered a case against Aravindakshan, 65, of Perumbadappu for possession of 7 packets of ganja. He was arrested from near the Ernakulam wharf area.
Eight persons were arrested on charges of gambling in two different cases. The Panangad police registered cases against six persons, all from Tamil Nadu, for gambling inside a rented room at Thevara ferry and seized Rs. 26,885 and playing cards from them.
The Mattanchery police arrested two persons on charges of engaging in gambling, known in local parlance as Cotton Kali, and seized Rs. 810 from them.
