The government has issued orders forming 12 new taluks in the State. They are Manjeswaram, Vellarikundu, Thamarassery, Iritty, Kondotty, Pattambi, Konni, Kattakada, Varkala, Chalakudy, Idukki, and Punalur.

The headquarters of the Pathanapuram taluk, the order said, will be shifted from Punlaur to Pathanapuram, and Punalur will be the headquarters of the new Punalur taluk. The headquarters of the other taluks and villages included will be notified later, after receipt of detailed proposals from the Land Revenue Commissioner.

Orders have also been issued establishing new village offices in 30 grama panchayats. They are Anchuthengu, Poovar, and Balaramapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district; Perayam in Kollam district; Cherthala South and Ambalappuzha North in Alappuzha district; Poonjar Thekkekkara, Kadplamattom, Koruthodu, Udayanapuram, and T.V. Puram in Kottayam district; Thumbamon in Pathanamthitta district; Munnar, Edamalakudy, Kanchiyar, and Irattayar in Idukki district; Pallarimangalam, Choornikara, and Keezhmadu in Ernakulam district; Athirappilly and Nenmanikkara in Thrissur district; Pookkottukavu in Palakkad district; Edarikodu, Muthedam, and Poothukallu in Malappuram district; Kattippra in Kozhikode district; Edyagiri, Peringalam, and Chokli in Kannur district; and Valiaparambu in Kasaragod.
