Tobacco products seized

The city police seized 11 bundles of banned chewing tobacco while it was being brought to the city from Bangalore on Tuesday. The packets of chewing tobacco were allegedly brought from Bangalore in a bus along with bundles of vegetables. The police arrested Sikandar, 32, of Coimbatore, Jai Lani, 38, a Tamil Nadu native residing at Elamakkara, and Kumar, 34, living at Vyttila, along with the tobacco products. The Bangalore bus dropped the men off at Vyttila, from where they put the bundles in Kumar’s autorickshaw. They were allegedly trying to carry the banned products to their godown at Aluva when the police arrested them near the Vyttila Mobility Hub.

Primary investigations revealed that more persons may be involved in the illegal activities, the police said in a communication.
