The curtain will go up on the 10-day Kannur Maholsavam beginning here on January 6 featuring diverse cultural and entertainment programmes.
It will be held at six venues. District Collector and organising committee chairman Rathan Kelkar said at a press conference here on Saturday that arrangements were under way for holding the event that would conclude on January 16.
The fete would begin with painting competitions for students to be held at the Jawahar Auditorium on January 6. A book festival would be held at the Town Square here , he said, adding the organisation committee members and the public would participate in a walk from St. Michael’s School to the Town Square on January 11.
Main events would be held at the Collectorate Maidan here from January 12 to 16. Programmes include the staging of play ‘Pranamam’ directed by Soorya Krishnamoorthy on January 13, a kalaripayattu performance on January 14, a musical programme by Amjad Ali Khan on January 15, and a cultural programme by the Kannur Akashavani on January 16. Programmes would also be held at Thalassery, Payyannur, Sreekantapuram, Mambaram, Mattannur and Kolachery. A ‘sand walk’ programme to promote morning walk would be held on the Payyambalam beach at 6.30 a.m. on January 13, he said. Tourism Deputy Director K. Bhaskaran, programme committee chairman Martin George, finance committee chairman P.P. Lakshmanan and programme committee convener K. Balachandran were also present at the press meet.
