Vyjayanthi Kashi is a well-known Kuchipudi artiste

Bangalore: Vyjayanthi Kashi, artistic director of the Bangalore-based Shambhavi School of Dance, has been honoured with the Zee Astitva Award.

The award, instituted by Zee TV, Mumbai, along with the Archana Trust, is given to women in recognition for their achievement in their chosen field. The jury comprises women from different disciplines.

Vyjayanthi Kashi has been chosen for her contribution to classical dance. The award was presented to her in Mumbai some time ago.

Her career spans a spectrum of performance, choreography, teaching, therapy, organising, acting and research.

Vyjayanthi Kashi is a Kuchipudi artiste of Doordarshan recognised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India Research Fellow in Kuchipudi dance, and a winner of the Kalashree Award. The Karnataka Government has appointed her as a member of the textbook committee for teaching Kuchipudi dance. She has won the Vocational Excellence Award from Rotary International. She is known for encouraging young artistes, besides training them.
