Ramachandra Harish Naik (29) of Bedasgaon in Mundgod taluk ended his life by consuming poison at his residence. He was hospitalised at Sirsi, but died on Sunday. He is believed to have consumed poison when his parents advised him not to drink alcohol, to which he was addicted. Mundgod Police have registered the case.

In another incident Ramachandra Shrikant Marathe (32), working at a local cloth store here ended his life on Sunday by hanging himself at his house at Ambagiri. It is believed that there was a dispute between him and his wife earlier. PSI Chandrashekar Harihar has registered the case.

Bodies found

Bodies of two fisherwomen Mangala Shivanand Ambiga (30) of Mirjan and Laxmi Honnappa Ambiga (42) of Tanmadagi were found on the banks of Sharavati river in Honnavar taluk on Sunday. They had gone for fishing on a boat and the boat is believed to have capsized. Honnavar police have begun investigations.

Elephant on rampage

A herd of 14 elephants are destroying paddy crops since four days at Malagi, Hakkalplat, Kolgi and Gotgodikoppa villages in Mundgod taluk. The farmers have urged Forest officials to scare away the elephants and save their crops.
