Deputy Commissioner V. Anbukkumar has called upon the youth to take on the responsibility of building a strong society. Unfurling the national flag at the district stadium to mark Republic Day here on Thursday, he urged people to preserve the nation's culture.

Mr. Anbukkumar said construction of 9,665 houses for families displaced by floods in 2009 had been completed, with the remaining ones scheduled to be completed before monsoon.

The Deputy Commissioner said the Government sanctioned Rs. 26 crore for a four-lane highway between Gunj Circle and RTO Circle, and Rs. 2 crore to widen the stretch between Mouleshwara Circle and Basaveshwara Circle in Raichur.

The Government had sanctioned Rs. 85.46 crore under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act , of which implementing authorities had spent Rs. 23 crore to provide employment to about 45,000 families in the district, he said.

Legislators Syed Yasin and Raja Rayappa Naik, president of the zilla panchayat Tanveer Basheeruddin, tahsildar Ashok Jahagirdar, president of the Raichur City Municipal Council Mamata Sudhakar and Superintendent of Police S. Shashikumar were among those present.

In Koppal

In Koppal, Minister for Cooperation and district in-charge Laxman S. Savadi unfurled the national flag at the district stadium.

Deputy Commissioner Tulasi Maddineni, Superintendent of Police B.S. Prakash and Karadi Sanganna, MLA, were present.
