10-day NSS camp inaugurated at Kuvempu University near Shimoga

SHIMOGA: Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy planted a sapling at "Smrithi Vana" at Jnana Sahyadri, the campus of Kuvempu University, about 30 km from here, on Friday to mark the inauguration of "shram daan" of the 10-day State-level camp of the National Service Scheme (NSS).

Special Officer of the Women's University of Bijapur M.B. Dilshad, who inaugurated the camp, called upon youth to make positive contribution to the development of the nation eschewing the narrow and divisive communal and linguistic considerations.

Registrar of the Kuvempu University Praveenchandra Pandey emphasised the need for youth to develop their personality by actively participating in constructive activities.

Vice-Chancellor of the university B.S. Sherigara presided over the function. NSS Coordinator of the university K.B. Dhananjaya welcomed the gathering.

Lecturer at the Ambedkar BBM College Lava proposed a vote of thanks.

About 300 NSS volunteers from various universities in the State in addition to those of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Pondicherry are participating in the camp. Apart from the activities relating to the personality development, services such as cleaning of the campus and construction of a compound are being taken up as part of the camp activities.
