The finals of The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2011 for the Hubli region will be held on November 27 at J.G. College of Commerce at Vidyanagar in Hubli.
The event is an initiative of The Hindu-NIE and is being held for the second time in Hubli.
The second edition of the contest in Hubli attracted 1,250 entries from students from Dharwad, Davangere, Belgaum, Haveri, Gadag, Bellary, Bagalkot, and Bijapur, Uttara Kannada and Koppal districts who sent their paintings on the given topics.
Of them, 500 students had been shortlisted for the final event on Sunday.
Intimation letters have been sent to students whose entries have been chosen informing them about their selection for the final event. The contestants should bring the intimation letter on the day of competition which will start at 9 a.m. The topics for the competition will be given at the venue.
There are 20 prizes to be given away in two categories — junior (class 4 to 7) and senior (class 8 to 10).
The prizes for the winners will be distributed immediately after the completion of the event at the venue. Apart from the first, second, and third prizes, there will be seven consolation prizes in both categories. And all the finalists will be given participation certificates.
In the senior category, the winners will get Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 2,000 as the first three prizes, while in the junior category, the prize money is Rs. 3,000, Rs. 2,000, and Rs. 1,000 for the first three winners.
In both the categories, the consolation prizes will be Rs. 500 each.
Apart from Hubli, The Hindu Young World Painting Competition 2011 is held in 14 other centres across the country, including Bangalore, Mangalore, and Mysore in Karnataka.
MIOT Hospitals (CHIME) is the title sponsor for the event and Amrutanjan Relief Cough and Cold is the national sponsor. RNS College of Business and Hotel Administration, Hubli; and Hotel Tirumala Classic, Hubli; are the regional sponsors.
