Sparkling stilettos, bold cuts and designs, and stunning models brought in all the glitz and glamour to the city on Thursday as 125 young fashion designers showed off their creations at Fashionite 2013, the annual fashion extravaganza by the Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) here.
About 140 ensembles, all displayed by the designers here earlier in the week, represented a range of themes such as Kalamkari, Vibrant Colours, Leafy Fashion, Royal Casino, and others. Each designer had a story to tell through the creations which had its unique inspiration.
One of the young designers, Remya Vijayan, a final year student who pursued a degree in apparel design, said her work centred round the theme Dark Angel. “I have tried to bring in the elements in the theme of the angel and the devil through my creations,” she said. She pointed out the headband adorned by red devil horns and a magic wand that was used to accessorise her work.
It was a jam-packed event as friends and family members gathered to support the work of the young graduating designers. Each work was greeted by thunderous applause as the audience showed its appreciation.
Earlier, IIFT director B. Vedhagiri congratulated the students and said: “We reflect a very diverse collection of designs that is inspired by a variety of themes from the Charm of Belur to Chinese Arts, indicating the future trends to come on the global fashion scene.”
