Bangalore: The Karnataka State Amateur Yoga Sports Association (KSAYSA) and Rotary Bangalore, Banashankari, will organise the 30th annual Karnataka State Yoga Championship on May 8 and 9 at Jyothi Kendriya Vidyalaya on Kanakapura Road.
A team that will represent Karnataka in the 35th National Yoga Championship to be held in Goa this year will be selected.
B. Karigowda, president of Rotary Bangalore, Banashankari, said that the event was aimed at encouraging those enthusiastic about sports and yoga. The event will be held for six different age groups, from 8 to 55, for men and women. The participants will have to perform the 10 prescribed asanas within 10 minutes. A champion's trophy will be given to a man and a woman as part of the Champion of Champions Competition which will be held for the first and second place winners from all age groups. The winners of the first three places in all age groups will be selected for the 35th National Yoga Championship. On May 8, Rotary awards for vocational excellence will be presented to C.N. Manjunath, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology; B.S. Srinath, oncology surgeon; B.N.V Subramanya, educationist; and M.S. Vishwanath, yoga expert and teacher; at Jyothi Kendriya Vidyalaya.
