The judiciary has played an important role in the success of democracy in India by providing regular guidance to the Legislature and the Executive to rectify the errors in their functioning, said the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

He was inaugurating the first floor of the building of the District Bar Association here on Thursday.

The directions issued by the Judiciary had helped the Legislature and the Executive to improve their level of efficiency.

The instances of people approaching the court for justice had increased in recent times. The credibility of the Judicial system could be enhanced by taking initiatives to deliver justice for the oppressed in an expedited fashion, he said.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Mahalakshmi Nerale promised to provide all possible assistance from the Department of Judiciary for the construction of library and conference hall in the new building.

B.Y. Raghavendra, Shimoga MP, appreciated the role played by the courts in ending corruption.

MLC R.K. Siddaramanna and President of District Bar Association H.R. Somashekharappa were present.
