The former Chief Minister and Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) president B.S. Yeddyurappa has said he will launch a padayatra from Mysore to Bangalore on Thursday in protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal being notification. The padayatra will cover various places along the way.

Mr. Yeddyurappa was speaking to journalists after inaugurating the local office of the party’s unit in the Chamundeshwari constituency on Tuesday.

Describing the padayatra as “apolitical”, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that anyone, irrespective of their party affiliations, was welcome to support the struggle.

There was no point in making tall claims of “shedding blood” once the award was notified. Any agitation against the notification should be initiated now, he said. Elected representatives of the Cauvery basin should tender their resignations now as their rhetoric would be of no use once the award was notified, he added.

The padayatra, he said, would culminate in Bangalore on February 14. It would highlight the injustice meted out to the State pertaining to its share of the river water.
