Eesuru Basavaraj, who is elected to zilla panchayat from the Eesuru constituency in the Shikaripur taluk as the Congress candidate, has threatened that he would stage the black flag demonstration before Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa if he did not apologise for his reported statement made on the eve of the panchayat elections that he would not enter the constituencies where the BJP candidates were defeated.
He told presspersons on Thursday that the Chief Minister had insulted the voters by making such a statement.
He said the visits by Mr. Yeddyurappa to his Eesuru constituency would be greeted with black flags.
He said if he had won the election against the BJP candidate who spent heavily to seek votes, it was largely because of the approval of the people in the constituency of the work done by him as the previous member of the zilla panchayat.
He said he won the election with the support of the people of the constituency who bore the expenses of his campaign through their voluntary donations.
Mr. Basavaraj said he would not allow the misutilisation of funds to be allocated to his constituency for developmental works.
