The Akhila Bharata Yakshagana Byalata Sahitya Sammelan is all set to begin here on Friday with many Yakshagana performances scheduled during the three-day event.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, president of the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said the sammelan would be inaugurated by senior Yakshagana artiste K. Govind Bhat at the Town Hall at 10.30 a.m.

On the first day, the Yaksha Shikshana Trust would perform “Saindhava Vadhe” in the Badagu Thittu style. Other prasangas to be performed included Meghadhoota, Vaali Sugreeva Kaalaga, Hiranyakashyapu, Jambavati Kalyana. In the afternoon, a session would be held on Yakshagana of the Paduvalapaaya style, he said.

There would be several Yakshagana performances such as Rati Kalyana and Shri Vishnuleelamrutham and Shrirama Darshana the second day. The day's events included a special 15-minute lecture by senior lawyer and artiste Muliya Keshavayya, he said.

There will be prasangas Angada Sandhana – Ravana Vadhe and singing of traditional songs of Moodalapaaya Yakshagana on the final day. A special lecture on the pandita tradition in Yakshagana would be delivered by scholar Taltaje Vasantkumar. This would be followed by the valedictory function, he Mr. kalkura said.
