Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy will reprint Sheni Bharatha, a work by G. L. Hegde containing the interpretations of characters of the Mahabharata, as the book is not available now, according to Kumble Sundar Rao, chairman of the academy. Mr. Sundar Rao told presspersons here that the academy would reprint 1,000 copies of the book.

Mr. Hegde had compiled the interpretations of the characters of the Mahabharata by the late Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhat, doyen of Yakshagana. The late Bhat had interpreted the characters during his several Yakshagana talamaddales. Not all Yakshagana artistes had analysed the characters of the Mahabharata as deeply as late Bhat did through his acumen. Hence the book had been soled out and not available.

Mr. Rao said that in his book Mr. Hegde had only recorded the interpretations of characters played by late Mr. Bhat in several “talamaddales”. He did not record the interpretations by such artistes (co-artistes). The book would contain interpretations by co-artistes who played the opposite characters. Mr. Rao said the academy would organise a refresher workshop for Yakshagana artistes of Badagu Thittu school in Sringeri on January 24 and 25.
