MANGALORE: The Dakshina Kannada District Consumers’ Disputes Redressal Forum will organise a workshop on consumer awareness and rights here on Saturday. Karnataka State Consumers’ Disputes Redrressal Commission Chairman K. Ramanna will inaugurate the workshop.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, forum Chairperson Asha Shetty said that the workshop was being organised because many people in the district were not aware of the rights of consumers and the remedies available to correct shortcomings in services provided.

There will be an interactive session at the workshop during which participants can ask questions to resource persons on any aspect of consumer laws, rights and remedies, she said. In addition to legal experts, officials from the Department of Legal Metrology will be available.

Ms. Shetty said that the 9,500 cases had been registered by the forum between January 1992 and December 2009. Of those, 9,351 cases had been disposed of. The district forum received an average 30 to 60 cases a month.

Consumers can log on to www.confonet.nic.in to know the details of all cases, she said. The public relations officer can be contacted on 2457498 or 9481161003.
