The district administration organised a workshop for pre-university students at the Rang Mandir on Thursday.

P. C. Jaffer, Deputy Commissioner, said that this was part of a series of workshops that would be conducted to improve the quality of education in the district. He said efforts were being made to improve the pass percentage of students in SSLC and PUC, and to assist students in making the right career choices. This process would be streamlined when the proposed education development and career counseling centre would take shape, he said.

Career choices

This would be run in association with private education institutions and NGOs, he said. Apart from assessing the aptitude of students, the centre would throw light on career choices other than medicine or engineering, he said. The centre would also organise workshops to help students develop self confidence. Dr. Jaffer felicitated Harshit, who hails from Bidar, for securing the first rank in the admission test of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. He is a student of Mysore Medical College.

Resource person Shanti Desai spoke to students about facing the English language examination.
