A 35-year-old man was killed when he came under the newly-built boat being hauled into water when it overturned near Thota Bengre on Thursday evening.

According to Panambur police, 35-year-old Ashraf and five others were working under contractor Saleem, who had taken up the work of preparing a boat. Having prepared the boat, Ashraf and his five colleagues tried to move it into waters. While doing so, the boat overturned and Ashraf reportedly came under it. Ashraf's colleague Aslam, who was next to Ashraf, received injuries on head and chest. The police said Ashraf died on the spot. Aslam is admitted to a private hospital and his condition was said to be critical.
