Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for automotive component manufacturer Bosch’s new plant at Bidadi on Wednesday.

The greenfield facility, covering 97 acres of land, is expected to cost about Rs. 250 crore. The new plant would result in the relocation of the 60-year-old facility at Audugodi in the city.

Accelerating growth

Complimenting Bosch, Mr. Siddaramaiah said such investments would result in accelerating the growth of manufacturing activity in the State.

“Manufacturing is the key to the growth of employment and incomes,” he said.

To be relocated

Bosch officials expect the plant to be ready by the third quarter of 2015. About 850 workers currently working at the Audugodi facility were expected to be relocated to the Bidadi plant, they said. The new plant is to house the components of the diesel fuel injection systems.

Steffan Berns, managing director, Bosch Ltd., and president of the Bosch Group in India, said the company’s plants in Karnataka employ more than half of its workforce of 26,500 in the country. “The fact that we are investing during an economic downturn reflects our long term commitment,” he said.
