The former Chief Minister and Janata Dal Secular leader H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Tuesday that his party will not allow the government to shut down Sri Rama Sugar Factory in K.R. Nagar taluk.

He was addressing sugarcane growers from the taluk, who walked to Mysore to protest against the shutting down of the sugar factory, outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and A.H. Vishwanath, MP, for not taking steps to safeguard the “profit-making” factory.

He said Minister Prakash Hukkeri had promised in July that the factory would not shut down. But, the government was now pushing for its closure, he alleged. The former Chief Minister said the matter would be raised in the upcoming legislature session in Belgaum.
