Zilla Panchayat president Kamalabai Mayavanshi has called upon women to become self-reliant by making use of government schemes.

Speaking after inaugurating International Women's Day celebrations organised by the zilla panchayat, Women And Child Welfare Department and various organisation involved in women empowerment at Vanashri Kalyan Mantap here on Thursday, she lamented that though the State and the Union Governments have introduced several schemes for empowerment of women, they are not reaching the actual beneficiaries owing to lack of awareness.

Zilla panchayat member Anasuya Jadhav urged women to organise themselves and fight unitedly for their rights. Besides that, she underlined the need for them to become economically independent. She appealed to men to facilitate women's empowerment so that they can contribute positively for the development of their families and country.

Zilla panchayat Deputy Secretary Amaresh Nayak said efforts should be made to improve the condition of women in our country.

Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director D.P. Vasantprema gave details about government schemes.

Bijapur zilla panchayat vice-president Chandrashekhar Patil presided over the function.
