A woman, recently released on bail after being accused of murdering her fiancé last October, was found hanging at her residence in Peenya I Stage here on Monday morning.
The parents of Sowmya Saloni (24) told the police that she was depressed and humiliated over her jail term.
On Sunday night, Sowmya slept in the same room as her parents, Prakash and Indira. When Mr. Prakash, an industrialist, woke up around 5 a.m., he saw that Sowmya was not in their room. The bedroom door was also locked from the outside, as was his son’s. Mr. Prakash then called the police, who broke the door open and saw Sowmya hanging from the ceiling of the hall.
Soumya was charged with murdering Nitish (27), her fiancé, on October 21, 2012. Nitish, an employee of Accenture, met her through a social networking site two years ago and the two eventually got engaged.
However, a year into their engagement, Sowmya harboured doubts about Nitish’s commitment and later became friendly with another man, Parshwanath Malagatti. She then allegedly hatched a conspiracy along with Malagatti to kill Nitish. The two put their plan in motion on October 21 when Soumya took Nitish to a secluded area near Bannerghatta and spiked his drink with poison. She then took Malagatti’s help to blindfold her fiancé and together they allegedly stabbed and bludgeoned him to death with a rock.
The Peenya police have registered a case.
