BANGALORE: A woman was killed and three were injured when a mini lorry hit a group of women collecting water from a public tap in Peenya traffic police station limits on Thursday.

The police said the accident occurred around 6.30 a.m. at Kareemsab Layout near Hegganahalli Cross. The name of the dead was given as Varalakshmi (36). The injured were Varalakshmi's daughter Shruthi (16) and Shameemunissa and Boobamma. They have been admitted to hospital.

After the accident, the driver, Raju, abandoned the vehicle and fled. The police said he is also a resident of Kareemsab Layout. Brake failure is suspected to have caused the accident. The Peenya traffic police have registered a case.

Pedestrian killed

A 75-year-old man was killed after a goods vehicle hit him while he was crossing a road near Venkatala village in Yelahanka police station limits around 6.45 p.m. on Wednesday.

The police gave his name as Ganapathi, a retired IAF havaldar and a resident of Venkatala. The Yelahanka traffic police have registered a case.

Falls to death

A labourer was killed after he fell off the third floor of an apartment complex under construction near Hosakerehalli Cross in Girinagar police station limits on Wednesday. The police gave his name as Narasimha Murthy (23) of Gauribidanur taluk of Kolar district. The Girinagar police have registered a case.

Suicide

Leela (30) hanged herself to death at her house in Manjunathnagar in K.R. Puram police station limits on Wednesday.

Leela, who was employed in a courier agency, married Satish Kumar, a private factory employee, three years ago. Leela's father, Swaminathan, has lodged a complaint with the K.R. Puram police stating that she ended her life as Satish Kumar was harassing her for dowry.
