BANGALORE: A 28-year-old pregnant woman was thrashed and later hanged from the ceiling allegedly by her husband in their house on Police Road in Cottonpet Police Station limits on Sunday. The incident, it is said, happened in front of the couple’s seven-year-old son who narrated the incident to the police.

The police said Anita had come along with her husband Shankar (30) and son Jeevan to her parent’s house in Police Road. They were staying in the house for the past 10 days.

On Sunday morning, Anita’s mother, Jayamma, a flower vendor, went to buy groceries.

Then Shankar picked up a quarrel with his wife Anita who was stringing flowers. Shankar slapped Anita and then hanged her to the ceiling and went away, the police said. Jayamma came to the house and removed the knot. Anita died before she could be taken to a hospital.

The police recorded the statement of Jeevan who narrated the conduct of his father. Based on this statement, the police have taken up a case of murder.

The police are waiting for the autopsy report to know the exact reason for Anita’s death. The police said Shankar suspected the fidelity of his wife.

The Cottonpet police have launched a search for Shankar.


The theft of government vehicles appears to be continuing with a vehicles belonging to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) being stolen from the office near Yelahanka Old town.

The Yelahanka police said Prakash Pujar, the driver, parked the vehicle near the office and went home.

When he came on Sunday morning, Mr. Pujar found the vehicle missing. The Yelahanka police are investigating.
