A 26-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter drowned in a quarry pit in Betta Ulsoor in Chikkajala on Monday.
The woman, Kavitha, along with her daughter, Sangeeta, and another child, Archita (7), had gone to the quarry pit to wash clothes. Sangeeta who was playing near the pit suddenly fell in. Archita alerted Kavitha who jumped into the water. However, Kavitha was unable to rescue Sangeeta and she drowned too. The police said that the quarry pit is nearly 50 feet deep.
Meanwhile, on being alerted by Archita, Kavitha’s husband, Ramesh, rushed to the spot and tried to rescue his wife and daughter but could not find them. Residents of the area also jumped into the water and helped Ramesh out.
While the search team managed to recover Kavitha’s body, they were not able to find Sangeeta’s body.
Woman found dead
A 26-year-old domestic help was found dead, at her house in Venugopal Nagar in Hulimavu on Monday. Police suspect that the victim, Thippamma, was murdered by her husband, Hemanna (32), a construction worker. The couple, who hail from Chitradurga, have a six-year-old son who was staying at his grandparents’ house.
Police said that Hemanna was an alcoholic and that he suspected his wife’s fidelity. An argument broke out between the two on Sunday night. The landlord who lived next door found her dead the next day. The Hulimavu police have registered a case.
A 30-year-old woman was found dead at her residence in Doddabidarkallu in Maranna Layout on Monday. The deceased, Poornima, returned home from work on Sunday and reportedly seemed depressed. Police suspected that Poornima committed suicide by hanging herself when her husband and seven-year-old son were asleep. On Monday, her husband, Thimmesh, found Poornima’s body. She left a note which stated that she was responsible for her own death and that she did not want to blame anyone, the police said.
An autopsy was conducted at M.S. Ramaiah Hospital and a case of unnatural death has been registered by the Peenya police.
Killed in accident
A 20-year-old engineering student was killed in a road accident on Kanakapura Road on Monday. A concrete-mixer lorry hit the motorcycle he was riding.
Kumaraswamy Layout traffic police said that the deceased, Sanjay Paul, a resident of Jayanagar, was riding to college, when the lorry driver took a sudden turn and knocked him down.
KS Layout traffic police seized the lorry and arrested the driver, Mukesh Kumar.
A 70-year-old man, Doddamuniyappa, was killed after a goods vehicle knocked him down near Bagalur post on Monday, the police said.
A 22-year-old painter committed suicide by consuming poison at his residence in Kamalanagar on Sunday, reportedly after being rejected by the girl he wanted to marry.
The deceased, Basavaraju, wanted to marry a minor who lived in the same area. On Sunday morning, he proposed to the girl but was rejected. Police suspected that this led Basavaraju to attempt suicide.
