A 55-year-old woman was arrested by the Yeshwantpur police for drug trafficking and they recovered 5.6 kg of marijuana from her.

The accused, Farida, a resident of Sharif Nagar in Yeshwantpur, with the help of Syed Nadeem, was allegedly selling marijuana to students and manual labourers in B.K. Nagar.

On a tip-off, the police raided the area and nabbed the woman and seized the drugs. The police said Farida had been trafficking drugs with the help of about 20 associates.

The police said they had built up a network across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and were smuggling drugs across via trains and buses.

Farida has various cases registered against her, including two cases in Yeshwantpur police station and other cases with the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police and had been evading arrest for years.

A case has been registered with the Yeshwantpur Police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
