Officials should ensure that development grants do not lapse, Deepika Sachin Rathod, zilla panchayat president said here on Thursday.

During a development review meeting, she said that action would be taken if they failed to achieve physical and financial targets.

Ms. Rathod said that she had received complaints that teachers were using toilets built for children in a particular school, without letting the children use them.

She has instructed H.R. Basappa, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction, to resolve the matter. Officials informed her that textbooks, uniforms and bicycles had been distributed to students in most schools.

Ration cards

Ration cards have been distributed to 5.41 lakh residents attached to 586 ration shops in rural areas and 157 in urban areas in the district.

Over 79 per cent of the targets set for the immunisation of children have been achieved, officials said. Of 36,564 children under five, 28,860 have received vaccines.

Only 187 of the 405 borewells have been dug in the fields of beneficiaries under the Department of Social Welfare. The State government has approved 643 works in the Public Works Department, and of the target of 480 works, officials have completed 423. In addition, the work of providing drinking water to villages in Aurad will be complete in 18 months, officials said.
