Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah paid a surprise visit to disqualified BJP legislator H.S. Shankarlinge Gowda at his residence on Thursday.

This set tongues wagging regarding Mr. Gowda's future course of action.

Mr. Siddaramaiah was closeted with Mr. Gowda for over 20 minutes.

The Congress leader refused to attach any political significance to his visit and said that he had come to enquire about Mr. Gowda's health.

“I have known Mr. Gowda for many years and had met him when he was hospitalised in Bangalore, following an attack by BJP activists at the Legislators' Home,” said Mr. Siddaramaiah.

The Congress leader also recalled his early association with Mr. Gowda when they were both in the Janata Dal and added that it was for Mr. Gowda to decide his future course of action.

Mr. Gowda, who has maintained a low profile after the High Court verdict upholding his disqualification, expressed similar sentiments and said that he trusted both Mr. Siddaramaiah and H.D. Kumaraswamy and he had left his political options open.

“I was with the Janata Dal and it was because of H.D. Deve Gowda that I became the Mayor of Mysore. I am indebted to the Janata Dal and am also grateful to Mr. Siddaramaiah. We have worked together and I will decide my course of action after seeking feedback from my supporters,” said Mr. Gowda.
