Bangalore: Electrical surges and voltage fluctuations are known to damage electrical and electronic goods. Consumers who lose their assets this way may claim compensation from the utility. A BESCOM official said that consumers have to lodge a complaint at the jurisdictional sub-division office within 24 hours of the incident. They are required to submit a few documents, which include purchase receipt and repair bills. The maximum amount that can be claimed is Rs. 5,000 per connection.
