Our Career Guidance Programme provides you an opportunity to quiz experts

It is time once again for The Hindu Career Guidance and Counselling programme. Adding two more cities in the eighth edition of these annual sessions, for the first time we arrive in Bidar on May 14, and return to Gulbarga on May 15.

This year too our event offers an interactive session with experts, career counsellors and admission officials, and more. In Bidar, the event is slated to be held at the Zilla Rang Mandir at 10 a.m., while in Gulbarga, the chosen venue is the Appa Institute of Engineering Technology auditorium in the Sharanabasaveshwar Residential School Complex.

What's aptitude?

On offer for the first time, is an ‘Aptitude and Abilities' test. A concept less-understood, aptitude tests are designed to tell you what profession, line or direction in career you are best suited for.

We bring you this test, free of cost, in partnership with our assessments partner MeritTrac, a skills assessment firm. The hour-long test is divided into three sections, each of which tests you on a different metric of aptitude. Together, this test is used to prepare for you a three-page report which will provide insights that will help you gauge your skills and orientations. This report will be emailed to you within a week's time.

Then, of course, there's the staple – an interactive session for students and parents to talk to experts from professional fields, admission officials from the Karnataka Examinations Authority and the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental college of Karnataka (comed-k). This presents an opportunity for you to get your doubts on educational opportunities and scope in various fields cleared.

In Bidar, the sessions will be inaugurated by senior IAS officer and Managing Director of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Munish Moudgil. A post graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, Mr. Moudgil will also speak about preparing for the IIT- JEE entrance test, and share his views on the civil services as a career. Our expert panel will comprise Dr Rajshekar Koujalagi of the Bidar Institue of Medical Sciences, Prof S Diwakar of the Rural Engineering College Bhalki, Arati Dandavate of the Guru Nanak Dev engineering college Bidar, and educational counselor Mahesh Mashetty. Bank representatives will also answer questions on education loans.

In Gulbarga, the Secretary of the Hyderabad Karnataka Area Development Board Shalini Rajneesh Goal. He is a trained management professional and senior IAS officer, will deliver the keynote address. The panel of experts includes Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka S. Chandrasekhar, who will talk on non conventional career options, Member of the Academic Council of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Emeritus Professor of Medicine P.S. Shankar, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department in PDA College of Engineering G.K. Purohit, Training and Placement Officer Mahadevappa Gadagi and Anilkumar Bidwe of the Appa Institute of Engineering Technology.

Free Career handbook

The chief guests will also release our 130-page career handbook `Set Your Own Stage'. It is a well researched publication that presents a wide range of expert articles charting trends, providing information and helping students plan their next step. A free copy will be given to all participants.
