: M. Manjunath Nayak, Chief Executive Officer Bellary Zilla Panchayat, lauded the services of police in providing safety, security, peace and maintaining law and order.

“Many a police personnel lay down their lives while protecting the lives of civilians during emergencies. Because of their sacrifice, civilians are able to live peacefully. In turn, we owe a duty to pay our respect to deceased police personnel,” Mr. Nayak said while participating at the police martyr’s day, organised at the District Armed Reserve grounds here on Monday.

Earlier, Mr. Nayak placed a wreath on the police martyrs’ memorial at the ground.

Chetan Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police, read out the names of 579 police personnel who had sacrificed their lives while discharging duty across the country during the year.

Parveen Banu, councillor, Additional SP C.K. Baba, were among many prominent civilians and senior police officers to take part in martyr’s day.
