The repairs to Vijayanagar water tank, which was in a dilapidated condition, may take longer than expected.
For, the Mysore City Corporation (MCC) authorities will write to the government seeking its opinion on the future course of action as the contractor has suspended works citing cost escalation.
Hence, tender may be cancelled and fresh bids invited. The roof collapsed in 2009 and tenders were invited in 2010, but works were suspended midway.
A site inspection was conducted on Tuesday in which the Mayor Rajeshwari and other councillors visited the spot. The former Mayor, Sandesh Swamy, said the contract should be cancelled and fresh bids invited for the same rate. He said the MCC has earmarked Rs. 6.15 crore for the works, which should be accorded priority
Commissioner P.G. Ramesh said the MCC tried negotiating with the contractor who is dilly-dallying and hence they have written to the government.
