Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake informed the Legislative Council that he would visit Kundamestrihole, the site where the project to supply drinking water to Madikeri town is located, along with people’s representatives soon.

He was responding to a question about the progress of the project by T. John (Congress). Intervening, Janata Dal (Secular) Floor Leader M.C. Nanaiah said the project was a total waste of public money as the site was not approachable by road.

The initial cost of the project, proposed to feed Madikeri during the summer, was Rs. 7 lakh. Later it was enhanced to Rs. 27 crore and now it will cost Rs. 87 crore. For Rs. 87 crore, water could be brought from KRS itself, he said. Mr. Nanaiah said enough water could be brought to Madikeri from the Cauvery from a distance of about 12 km. The Minister should visit the spot and assess the feasibility of the ongoing project, he said.
