BANGALORE: Work was affected for nearly two hours at the Foreigners’ Registration Office (FRO) at the Police Commissioner’s office here on Friday as huge quantity of water had seeped in following heavy rain on Thursday.
The staff at FRO went through embarrassing moments as several foreign nationals turned up at the office even as the employees were busy bailing out the water using mugs and buckets. Visitors to the FRO had to stand outside for more than an hour as all the furniture was carted out of the office during the cleaning operation.
A senior officer at the FRO told The Hindu that water seepage was common when ever it rained heavily. Though minor repair work was undertaken after the rains earlier, major repairs had been shelved as plans were afoot to shift the office to a new building, he said.
The staff at the FRO said that such incidents affected the image of the Bangalore police as well as the State administration in the eyes of foreign nationals. In fact, the FRO, which was in a shambles, was given a facelift a few years ago. Besides providing trendy furniture, granite slabs were fixed for the walls and the floor.
