Valveman beaten up while on night duty; staff demand security

HUBLI: Following attack on a valve man on duty on Thursday, the staff of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWS&DB) resorted to snap strike here on Friday. According to the board staff, valveman Nagappa Baraker, was on duty at Indira Nagar in ward number 60 on Friday night. When he was releasing water to the region, three persons attacked him. Nagappa Baraker has sustained injuries on his face and was treated immediately.

After the news spread about the attack on Friday morning, the board employees decided to stop work and staged demonstration in front of the office of the regional office of the board near the Indira Glass House.

They demanded protection to staff on night duty and urged the senior officials to take up the issue with the police immediately.

The protesters said they ould not resume work unless steps were taken for the protection of the water board staff.

The agitation went on for an hour before senior officials of the board visited the spot and gave specific assurance to the protesters.
