BIJAPUR: Was Mehbub Ibrahim, a fabrication mechanic from Guledgud in Bagalkot district, who is now in the custody of Bangalore police, which is investigating terrorist attack on the Indian Institute of Science, whisked away from his native town on January 1?

The answer is yes, if the complaint filed by his father Ibrahimsab Murtuza Choukdar is to be believed.

According to the complaint lodged with Guledgud Police by Ibrahimsab, some people approached his son on January 1 and took him with them allegedly on the pretext of getting a boiler repaired. Habib did not return even after four days, and the family filed a complaint on January 5. Sources told The Hindu that the family members even approached Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh at Koodalasangam on January 8 and sought a direction to the police to trace Mehbub.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rub Momin, a head of madrasa at Hunshyal village in Sindagi taluk of Bijapur district, who was taken away by the police in the first week of January, has been released on condition that he will be available as and when required for investigation. It has now been found that he was not taken into custody by Bangalore police, but the district police interrogated him at the behest of the former. He reportedly admitted that he had a telephonic talk with the main suspect Abdul Rehman but it has nothing do with attack on the IISc.
