Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela took oath as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on Thursday. Governor H.R. Bhardwaj administered the oath to him at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan.

Justice Waghela (58), who was serving as a judge in the Gujarat High Court, succeeds Justice Vikramajit Sen, who was recently elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court.

He was elevated to the Bench of the Gujarat High Court as an additional judge in September 1999 and became a permanent judge in May 2001.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashok, Law Minister Suresh Kumar, Acting Chief Justice Sridhar Rao, Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao, Upalokayukta Subhash Adi, the former Lokayukta Shivaraj Patil and several judges as well as advocates attended the swearing-in ceremony.
