Mysore MP A.H. Vishwanath on Thursday lashed out at BJP leaders in the State for their statements that Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar was the target of the Wednesday’s bomb blast near the BJP office in Bangalore.

At a press conference here, Mr. Vishwanath ridiculed Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar for coming out with “misleading” statements.

Mr. Kumar had reportedly said that Mr. Shettar was expected to visit the BJP office around the time of blast.

Mr. Vishwanath said Mr. Shettar was filing his nomination papers in Hubli at the time of the blast. None of the BJP leaders were expected to visit the party office at that time according to their tour schedule, he claimed.

He pooh-poohed the statement of Deputy Chief Minster R. Ashok, who is also the Home and Transport Minister, for terming the blast an act of “transborder terrorism”.

The Congress MP took exception to the delay in taking action against Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas for allegedly violating the model code of conduct on many instances in the Krishnaraja Assembly constituency in Mysore. He said it was a “joke” that Mr. Ramdas, who is contesting from the Krishnaraja constituency, had declared that he owns assets worth only Rs. 36 lakh. He accused Mr. Ramdas of distributing gifts to the electorate in the constituency through a non-governmental organisation, Aasare.

He alleged that Janata Dal (Secular) candidate for the Krishnarajanagar constituency S.R. Mahesh, MLA, had violated the model code of conduct as he came with a long convoy of vehicles to file his nomination papers on April 17.

Only after he complained to the District Election Officer, many vehicles were seized, he said. He said his request to consider K.R. Nagar as a hypersensitive segment had gone in vain, thanks to the alleged influence of Mr. Mahesh.

He has sent memorandums to the Chief Election Commissioner, Principal Secretary, office of the Chief Election Commission; State Election Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mysore district.
