Many farmers and industrialists related to farm sector visited mega Krishi Mela in Dharwad recently and now there were proposals to organise Vishwa Krishi Mela (International Agriculture Fair), said R.R. Hanchinal, Vice-Chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad.
He was speaking at the inauguration of inter-collegiate chess tourney and award ceremony of 12-km cross-country race held at Forestry College on Wednesday.
Delegates from universities such as Carnel in U.S. and Macjill in Canada would be visiting Dharwad in October and would sign Memorandum Of Understanding (MoU) to provide opportunities to students with distinction, to study in their universities and provide a chance to take up Ph. D. there, he said.
A college of agriculture had been started this year at Hanumanmatti in Haveri district, he said. Plans for building a high tech auditorium in Sirsi Forestry College were in the offing, said Mr. Hanchinal.
In the inter-collegiate cross-country race, Shivaputrappa Huchgondar of Hanumanmatti College of Agriculture secured first place, Anand Katti and Shivamurthy, both from College of Agriculture, Bijapur, won second and third places.
In the team championship, Bijpur, Dharwad, and Sirsi colleges of Agriculture won first, second, and third place.
Pramod Basakar, director of Students Welfare University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, was the chief guest.
