Organising pan-global courses by inviting international speakers on various aspects of dental sciences would help the students and dental doctors to keep themselves abreast of the latest in business and enhance their skills, Dean of Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences (CIDS) K.A. Sunil Muddaiah has said.

He was participating in the two-day programme, ‘Pan Global Course on Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’, titled ‘Cognathics 2013’ on the CIDS premises in Virajpet, Kodagu on Monday. Nearly 400 delegates from various dental colleges across the country participated in the event.

The programmes would feature experts from across the world to conduct interactive lectures, discussions, skill innovations and live demonstrations of surgical procedures, Dr. Muddaiah said. The CIDS, celebrating its 15th year since inception, is the only professional dental college in the district.

Urban Hagg, Director of Clinical Education, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and specialist practitioner at Helsingborg, Sweden, along with Lim Kwong Cheung, professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Hong Kong, were the international speakers who participated in the programme. They spoke on facial deformity, craniofacial surgery and mid-facial deformity.

Dr. Cheung designed the modules of the pan-global course. These modules are open to postgraduates and delegates in the faculties of Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Secretary of the programme Jayanth said a programme of this magnitude was being organised for the first time in the history of Kodagu.
