Chitradurga Taluk Panchayat president Asha Shantkumar has said that steps will be taken to install water purification units in places where there is high fluoride content in water.

She told presspersons here on Thursday that many people in rural areas were suffering from health problems after drinking water that contained fluoride.

Ms. Shantkumar said since the district faced drought for two years, groundwater had depleted. Therefore, people were drilling borewells and this water was likely to have high fluoride content. As there was no equipment to purify borewell water, the authorities concerned would be instructed to install purification units, she said.

On houses under the Ashraya scheme, Ms. Shantkumar said there were complaints that those eligible had been neglected while preparing the list of beneficiaries. She promised to rectify the issue and make sure that only those who were eligible got houses under different schemes.
