Challakere (Chitradurga dist.): People of Nannivala village in Challakere taluk locked the government primary school in the village protesting against shortage of teachers in the school.

Agitators led by Gopalappa, taluk panchayat member, said that two teachers were running the show. They could not do justice to their work as they had to run around all the classes controlling the children. Repeated appeals to the Education Department to recruit teachers or at least depute teachers from other schools fell on deaf ears, the agitators said and urged the Government to provide teaching staff to the school or close the school.

Responding to the plea of the villagers, Block Education Officer B. Umadevi deputed a few teachers to the school and she promised that she would write to the Government to recruit teachers to the school.
