Residents were demanding laying of speed-breakers

MYSORE: Hundreds of vehicles were stranded at Siddalingapura village, near here, on Mysore-Bangalore Highway for more than half an hour on Friday evening after villagers blocked the highway demanding laying of speed-breakers.

It all started when the villagers of Siddalingapura blocked the traffic following injury to a senior citizen after a vehicle hit him from behind. Agitated villagers blocked the road demanding laying of speed-breakers and also compensation. The driver of the vehicle abandoned his vehicle and escaped. Eyewitnesses said that the traffic on the highway was disrupted between 7.10 p.m. and 7.45 p.m., and the vehicles started moving only after police arrived.

Police also took some protesters into custody to clear the traffic even as hundreds of vehicles were stranded on either side. They said that villagers were raising slogans against the administration as several pleas for laying speed-breakers were not heeded to.
