Former Karnataka State Champion and top seed Vijendra Y.G. of Mysore won the State Open Chess Tournament, organised by Kalabhimani Sangha at Kaup in Udupi district on Monday.

In the final round, Vijendra defeated Hermon Dian Saldanha of Mangalore in 72 moves.

In the top board, overnight leader Augustin of Kodagu, drew with Sharan Rao of Mangalore.

At the end of ninth round, Vijendra and Augustin scored eight points each. Based on the better tie-break score, Vijendra was declared the winner.

V.K. Udyavar, Chief Administrator of Vidyaniketan Group of Institutions, distributed the prizes to the winners.

Kundapur wins

The KRS Cricket Academy of Katapady won two trophies in the Udupi District Cricket Association Cup Inter-Camp tournament on Sunday. The KRS Cricket Academy defeated Karnataka Regional Cricket Academy, Kaup, and Vishwa Vinayak Cricketers, Thekkatte, in the Under-14 and Under-16 categories respectively. The Kundapur Sports Association lifted Under-19 trophy by defeating Brahmavara Sports Club. The tournament was organised by the Udupi District Cricket Association. The highlight of the tournament was Master Shravan of KRS Katapady hitting a century in the semi-final match of U-14 category, played against Marina Camp XI, the release added.

Basketball camp
