Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists staged a ‘rasta roko' on Monday demanding that the district administration improve facilities at the Hunshihalhuda rehabilitation colony, near here, and issue ownership certificates to beneficiaries.

Activists, led by Vinod Reddy, president of the district unit of the vedike, staged the rasta roko at the 7th Mile Cross. They wanted the district administration to provide facilities such as drinking water supply, good roads and sanitation in the colony. Traffic on the Raichur-Koppal State highway was disrupted for nearly an hour. They withdrew the agitation after Raichur tahsildar Ashok Jahagirdar and Assistant Commissioner Ujval Gosh reached the spot and assured them that their demands would be met in 15 days.

In the memorandumMr. Reddy said the Government had established a new colony at the 7th Mile Cross to rehabilitate families from Hunsihalhuda village in Raichur taluk. It had distributed houses to beneficiaries in 2004-05 with a promise to create facilities and issue ownership certificates to them. But so far, no action had been initiated by the district administration to provide the facilities.. They had also not issued ownership certificates to the families.
