Planting trees is the best way to contribute to the society, Shri Shivamurthy Muruga Sharana of Muruga Math has said. Speaking after inaugurating Vanamahotsava, organised as part of Sharana Samskruthi Utsav – 2013 at SJM Engineering College here on Wednesday, he said each person was responsible of protecting natural resources, most of which were being exploited owing to urbanisation.

Highlighting the need to preserve forests, Deputy Conservator of Forests S. Kumaraswamy said animal and bird species were declining in number mainly due to a decrease in forest area. Planting more trees would help maintain ecological balance and minimise the damage caused to nature.
