From December 25, the validity of caste and income certificates will be enhanced. While the caste certificate will now have lifetime validity, income certificates have increased from one year to five years. However, group classification certificates for the OBCs for employment purposes would be given annually if the recruiting authority insists, Revenue Department officials said.

Ponnuraj, Commissioner for Survey Settlement and Land Records, who is also implementation officer for the centres, said plans are on to introduce ‘over-the-counter’ delivery of caste and income certificates across the State in six months. For this authorities will conduct a survey and enter the caste and income details of citizens in their jurisdiction in the records so as to furnish certificates immediately.
