A colourful procession was taken out to mark the end of the Vachana Vijayotsava, the festival to celebrate literature produced by saints in the 12th century, here on Monday.
Deputy Commissioner P.C. Jaffer inaugurated the procession by reading lines from the vachanas.
Anna Hazare garlanded the Basaveshwara statue at Basaveshwara Circle.
Artistes accompanied the procession and presented song and dance performances. Women carried vachana books on their heads and children dressed as Sharanas rode horses and camels.
The vachanas were carried in decorated jeeps.
On Sunday evening, Siddanna Langoti, editor of Basava Belagu magazine, spoke about the 12th century cultural reform movement.
