U.T. Fareed passes away

ULLAL: U.T. Fareed, MLA for Ullal, died at his residence here on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was 69 and leaves his wife, four sons and a daughter.

Mr. Fareed started his professional career as an advocate in 1964. He soon became vice-president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress and later vice-president of the Karnataka State Youth Congress.

Mr. Fareed was elected from Ullal Assembly constituency in 1972, 1978, 1999 and 2004.

Among those who have mourned his death are Union Minister for Labour Oscar Fernandes, the former Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily, B. Janardhana Poojary, MP, the former Minister B. Ramanath Rai, Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, Mayor Vijaya Arun and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary K. Vijayakumar Shetty.
